Why you need more than one favicon size
A single small icon used to be enough, but modern browsers, phones and app shortcuts each expect their own size — a tiny 16×16 browser tab icon looks blurry if stretched up for an iPhone home screen shortcut, and vice versa.
This tool generates the standard set: browser tab sizes, Apple's touch icon for "Add to Home Screen", and Android's adaptive icon sizes — all from one source image, resized and centre-cropped to a square automatically.
How to use this tool
- 1.Upload a square image — ideally 512×512px or larger, so nothing looks blurry at the biggest size.
- 2.Download individual sizes, or click "Download all" for a ZIP with every file.
- 3.Upload the files to the root of your website (the same folder as your homepage).
- 4.Copy the generated HTML and paste it into the <head> section of your pages.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a real .ico file?
Not anymore for most purposes — modern browsers support PNG favicons directly via the HTML this tool generates. Some older tools or CMS platforms may still ask specifically for a .ico file, which isn't produced by this tool.
My image isn't square — what happens?
It's automatically centre-cropped to a square before resizing, so the middle of your image is kept and the edges are trimmed evenly.
Why does my old favicon still show after uploading the new one?
Browsers cache favicons aggressively. Try a hard refresh, or wait — most browsers pick up the change within a day or so.
