Why WaqarWeb exists
VAT affects almost everyone in the UK, but most of the information about it is written for accountants. If you're a freelancer checking a quote, a small business owner getting close to the threshold, or someone trying to split the VAT out of a receipt, you just want a correct answer and a clear explanation.
WaqarWeb started as a collection of general web tools. The VAT calculator and VAT guides quickly became what people used most, so in 2026 the whole site was rebuilt around UK VAT.
What you'll find here

- A UK VAT rates page with the current rates and thresholds and the date we last checked them.
How we keep things accurate
- Official sources. Rates, thresholds and rules are checked against GOV.UK and HMRC guidance, and guides link to the source.
- Review dates. Pages with rates or thresholds show when they were last reviewed, and changes are logged.
- Tested calculators. Every calculator is tested against worked examples, and works in whole pence so the totals add up.
- Working shown. Each result shows the formula, so you can check it yourself.
What WaqarWeb isn't
WaqarWeb isn't an accountancy firm and doesn't give tax advice. The calculators and guides explain how VAT generally works. For decisions about your own VAT returns or registration, check HMRC guidance or speak to an accountant.
Who runs it
WaqarWeb is an independent project run by Waqar in the United Kingdom. It's free to use, with no sign-up. If you spot a mistake or want a calculator or guide that isn't here yet, get in touch — every message is read.
